"He shall stand and feed His flock"

Text: Micah 5:4

THE MESSIAH-SHEPHERD

The ministry of the Messiah-Shepherd was beautifully prophesied and featured in this text.

“And He shall stand and feed His flock
In the strength of the LORD,
In the majesty of the name of the LORD His God;
And they shall abide,
For now He shall be great
To the ends of the earth.”
Micah 5:4

1. “And He shall stand and feed His flock”

a) He would not be like the sinful and selfish kings of Israel/ Judah.
b) He will genuinely care for His flock.
c) He will stand.
i) His work would be unending.
ii) He will continue to serve the LORD.
d) And feed His flock.
i) He loves His flock.
ii) He will personally feed His sheep and lambs in the flock (John 10).

2. How would the Messiah serve

a) “In the strength of the LORD”
i) He will seek His strength day by day.
ii) He will not grow weary and worn out.
iii) The strength of the LORD would uphold and energize Him.
b) “In the majesty of the name of the LORD His God”
i) The Messiah would always refer to His Father.
ii) The love-bond between Father and Son is beautifully described in the Gospel of John.
iii) The majesty of the LORD would be reflected in His life and His ministry.

3. “And they shall abide, for now He shall be great to the ends of the earth”

a) The Lord Jesus Christ taught His disciples how they should abide (John 15)
i) In Him.
ii) In His word.
iii) In His love.
b) The Messiah’s influence and name would reach the ends of the earth; this is proven true!
