"Gather yourself in troops"

Text: Micah 5:1

A WARRIOR DAUGHTER

Zion need not feel weak or defenseless! The LORD can make her strong and transform her into a mighty warrior daughter!

“Now gather yourself in troops,
O daughter of troops;
He has laid siege against us;
They will strike the judge of Israel
with a rod on the cheek.”
Micah 5:1

1. “Now gather yourself in troops, O daughter of troops”

a) This is like a military person speaking.
b) The leader addresses the redeemed nation.
i) With courage and not fear.
ii) With strength and not weakness.
c) The challenge of the hour:
i) To assemble the troops.
ii) To prepare for possible warfare.
iii) To become organized as a military force.
d) This was a cry to arms.
i) The “daughter of troops” is not a weak person.
ii) The daughter of troops would respond to the call to arms with courage.

2. “He has laid siege against us”

a) This is an assessment of the activities of the enemies.
b) There is a calm appraisal of the situation at hand.
c) There was now an absence of fear of the enemies.

There was no bewailing of the problems that come with war.

3. What the enemies would do

a) “They will strike the judge of Israel”
i) The “judge” here is a reference to the ruler.
ii) And not a reference to a judge in the judicial system.

War is declared against the ruler normally.

b) “With a rod on the cheek”
i) This is an affront and an insult.
ii) This reflects the intention of the enemies. They would try and humiliate Zion again!
