Day 151 – Mark 6

“Having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust” 2 Peter 1:4

DEEP LESSONS OF FAITH AND LIFE

There were ample opportunities to see Jesus in action. The latest was to see how Jesus fed more than five thousand people with just five loaves and two fish (Mark 6:33-44). Each and every miracle performed was meant to communicate deep lessons of faith to all, but to the disciples in particular.

TOUGH CIRCUMSTANCES IN LIFE

The challenge is always to discover what lessons have been learned when faced with tough circumstances of life. Here was one tough situation.

“Now when evening came, the boat was in the middle of the sea;
and He was alone on the land.
Then He saw them straining at rowing, for the wind was against
them. Now about the fourth watch of the night He came to them,
walking on the sea, and would have passed them by.”
MARK 6:47-48

The Disciples once again faced another storm (Cf. Mark 4:37-41). What should they have done in this situation? Jesus saw His disciples battling the high winds. But He did not go to them immediately. He continued to be in communion with His Father till the fourth watch (This would be between 3.00am- 6.00am)!

TROUBLED!

The Disciples had obviously been battling with the stormy weather all night long. Tired and troubled, they suddenly noticed someone walking towards them!

“And when they saw Him walking on the sea,
they supposed it was a ghost, and cried out;
for they all saw Him and were troubled.”
MARK 6:49-50

Did the disciples feel that they had too much on their hands? There was the storm! And now a ghost walking on the sea? They “were troubled” indeed!

WHY WERE THE DISCIPLES TROUBLED?

Why indeed, were the disciples so troubled?

1. They had faced storms before.

2. They had met and overcome demons.

3. They had been in close proximity to Jesus all this while.

Jesus did not immediately come to their rescue. In fact, He would have passed them by! But His compassionate heart was moved by the fears of His disciples!
