Day 146 – Mark 6

“Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.”
2 Peter 1:2

A VERY SHORT BREAK

The Disciples must have warmed up to the idea of having a spiritual retreat. Ministering to the multitudes was exciting, but all knew the importance of having a short break from time to time.

“So they departed to a deserted place in the
boat by themselves.”
MARK 6:32

The disciples had to learn how to take the short breaks as they came. They knew only too well, that the multitudes would gather around Jesus.

1. A deserted place

This would be ideal. A quiet place would be restful to the body and the soul.

2. By themselves

This would be a good time to exchange notes with each other. There was just so much to share, and to learn from each other. The disciples must have begun talking to each other on the boat! Just to be by themselves, for a little while anyway, was a refreshing break.

THE MULTITUDES

While Jesus thought of the needs of the multitudes and also His disciples, the former thought only of themselves. When they learned that Jesus and His disciples were leaving their shores, the decided that they would follow them… on foot!

“But the multitudes saw them departing, and many knew Him
and ran there on foot from all the cities. They arrived before them
and came together to Him.”
MARK 6:33

1. Many knew Him

The multitudes knew Jesus as a great Teacher and a compassionate Healer. They had never come across one like Him! Their hearts yearned to be with Him, even if that desire was driven by personal needs.

2. Ran there on foot from all the cities

Imagine this moving sight! Thousands of people, passing the word by mouth, began running together to the other side of the lake. They had little thought of the need of the Disciples to rest up. They were only concerned that they saw Jesus again!

3. Arrived before them and came together to Him

How swiftly the multitudes must have run! Even before the boat which carried Jesus and His disciples had docked, the multitudes were already there, waiting to hear the Master! The hoped-for break was very brief indeed! Ministry had begun again!
