Day 125 – Mark 5

“Now ‘If the righteous one is scarcely saved, where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?'” 1 Peter 4:18

DEEP LESSONS OF FAITH

All learned deep lessons of faith that day! The miracle of raising the daughter of Jairus was done so simply, but so beautifully.

1. With great tenderness

Jesus walked up to the little girl, who was lying on her bed, as if she was in deep sleep. Mark described this tender scene in the following text.

“Then He took the child by the hand, and said to her,
‘Talitha. Cumi,’ which is translated,
‘Little girl, I say to you, arise.'”
MARK 5:41

The tenderness of the scene is wonderfully captured by using the Aramaic words Jesus employed (and then translating it). Jesus used the “the language of the heart” when He used Aramaic rather than the lingua franca, Koine Greek (The common language of the masses).

2. Tender practical concern

The little girl responded to the words of Jesus immediately. It was as if she had been roused from her deep sleep by Jesus.

“Immediately the girl arose and walked,
For she was twelve years of ageâ?¦
MARK 5:42

And said that something should be given her to eat”
MARK 5:43

Jesus knew that the little girl had not eaten for some days. She had been too ill to eat. He also knew that food would be one of the things that would come to the mind of a twelve year old little girl (They are always hungry at that age). How Jesus knew and loved His own!

TO THE AMAZEMENT OF ALL

The raising of Jairus’ daughter stunned and amazed all who saw the miracle! Despite the fact that they had seen the miracle, they were still absolutely awed by it.

“And they were overcome with great amazement.”
MARK 5:42B

A STRICT ORDER

To witness the raising of the dead is a truly awesome experience. The time to proclaim that Jesus could raise even the dead had not yet come. For the moment, all were charged with a strict directive. Jesus had His own reasons why He did not want them to broadcast the extent of His power!

“But He commanded them strictly that no
one should know it.”
Mark 5:43
