Day 123 – Mark 5

“For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God…” 1 Peter 4:17a

EVERY MIRACLE IS TIME WELL SPENT

Jesus wanted the woman who was desperately seeking to be healed to go away not just feeling physically restored. There was much more to a miracle than the healing of the body.

1. Commendation of her faith

She needed to know that her faith was appreciated and approved of! It was because of her faith that she received her request to be made well.

2. Blessing of peace

She also needed to know that the Lord was not upset with her. She need not feel fearful anymore. She need not tremble when she came into the Presence of Jesus. He wished her well. He gave to her peace of heart and mind. She could go away fully assured that she had been fully healed of her affliction. Her nightmarish experience for the past twelve years was now a thing of the past!

BAD NEWS

Jesus must have spent some time talking to her. His journey to Jairus’ home was thus inevitably delayed. Would He be too late to heal Jairus’ daughter, because of this interruption?

“While He was still speaking, some came from
the ruler of the synagogue’s house who said,
‘Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher
any further?'”
MARK 5:35

So many sad thoughts must have suggested themselves to Jairus as he heard this piece of bad news.

1. Had he come to Jesus at too late an hour?

2. Had this delay cost him his daughter’s life?

ONLY BELIEVE

Jairus must have turned to Jesus at that point of time. What should he do next? Should he indeed not “trouble the Teacher any further”?

Swiftly Jesus replied with words that must have brought a renewal of faith in Jairus’ heart.

“As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken,
He said to the ruler of the synagogue,
‘Do not be afraid; only believe.'”
MARK 5:36

Could Jairus fend off his fears? Could he “only believe”? He must!
