COULD WE BE IN SIMILAR STRAITS?

Is it possible for us to end up as Israel did? Let us ponder this question openly and honestly.

1. Spiritual blindness

Spiritual blindness is not restricted to ancient Israel. It is a malady that can afflict anyone! Could we end up in similar spiritual straits? Unfortunately, the answer is “Yes.”

a) We may not have any prophetic statements on this subject
But there really is no need for any prophet to warn against this problem with reference to Gentiles.
b) Israel as an example
The apostle Paul teaches that the things that happened to Israel must serve as an example.

“Now all these things happened to them as examples,
and they were written for our admonition…”
1 CORINTHIANS 10:11

2. Graver words of warning

The Scriptures warn us that the latter days will see even more spiritual problems arising. Let us take heed to the following texts.

“Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times
some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits
and doctrines of demons…”
1 TIMOTHY 4:1

a) Deceiving spirits at work
What sobering words these are! Powerful deceiving spirits will promote their doctrines and they will deceive many!
i) Through deception truth will not be understood.
ii) Through deception, error may be embraced as truth.
iii) Some will be so badly affected that they will leave the faith!
b) A special word of warning from the Spirit of God
We may borrow the words of Jesus when He said, ‘He who has ears to hear, let him hear” (Mark 4:9).
i) Let us train our ears to hear what the Spirit of God is saying to us.
ii) Let us take heed and train our hearts to obey the Lord.
iii) It is all up to us, whether we would become “insiders” or “outsiders”.
