Day 347 – Mark 16

“Then the high priest rose up, and all those who were with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with indignation.” Acts 5:17

TAKING IN AN INCREDIBLE MESSAGE

The women disciples were speechless as they heard these words of the angel specially sent by God. Certainly there were no more tears, and no more feelings of alarm in their hearts. To react negatively would be most unacceptable. They would have to deny what they saw- an empty tomb! They would have to dispute the words of this young man dressed in a long white robe. The evidence was over-powering. This message may sound incredible, but it was nonetheless absolutely true. Jesus was risen from the dead!

THE SECOND PART OF THE ANGELIC MESSAGE

There was a small task that the angels needed to entrust the women disciples. The women would be the honoured “first-messengers” of the Gospel of the risen Saviour!

“But go, tell His disciples- and Peter-
that He is going before you into Galilee;
there you will see Him, as He said to you.”
MARK 16:7

1. No angelic visit for the men

It was just and right that the men would not receive an angelic visit! Where were they? Why were they not with the women folk as they made their way to the garden tomb? Should they not at least have made an effort to go with the women folk?

2. But go, tell His disciples

The women may not have been accorded the same responsibilities and authority as the men disciples, but here they were certainly given a special honour! They would be the ones who would “tell His (Jesus’) disciples” that He had risen from the dead!

3. How would the men believe the women disciples?

a) The men would have no choice
They could choose either to believe or disbelieve! God would not have His angel to sit around in the empty tomb while the men made up their mind!
b) A clue that only the disciples would understand
Each time there was a crisis, Jesus would withdraw to Galilee with His disciples. Galilee held special meaning to the disciples of Jesus in particular. Surely they would understand this otherwise inane remark!
c) There you will see Him, as He said!
Seeing is believing? Then the disciples will indeed see Jesus in Galilee! Will they make the effort to go there? Will they take the time and trouble to remember all that He had said- about His death and also about His resurrection? It was all up to the disciples to believe the evidence or reject what was obvious to the honest searcher of truth.
