Day 284 – Mark 13

“Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.” Acts 2:41

THE RETURN OF CHRIST

How would the tribulation end? Jesus did not end His discourse on the End Times on a dismal note. He closed His discourse on a note of great triumph.

But in those days, after that tribulation,
the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light;
the stars of heaven will fall, and the powers in the heavens
will be shaken.
Then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds
with great power and glory.
MARK 13:24-26

1. The Wrong Focus

Many have tried to explain the following:-

a) How the sun would be darkened.
b) How the moon would not gives its light.
c) How the stars of heaven would fall.
d) How the powers in heaven would be shaken.
No matter how much “scientific effort” may be made to explain these phenomena, none would be found satisfactory! (None has)! The focus of this word given by the Lord Jesus is not these physical phenomena!

2. The Right Focus

The correct focus is on the promise that Jesus, The Son of Man, would return to this earth!

a) He would return “with great power and glory” (not as a Baby in a manger).
b) He would be coming from heaven (“coming in the clouds”).
c) All would see Him return with great splendour and glory.

3. The physical signs… (sun, moon, stars)

These great lights would merely herald the Return of the Majestic Son of Man. He may have been despised by the foolish and the wicked on earth. (Many today continue to disregard the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ). However, one day, all eyes will behold Him and every knee will bow to the Son of Man! This was the triumphant note that Jesus chose to conclude His eschatological discourse.
