“But is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9b

MINISTRY TO CHILDREN

Did Jesus have a ministry to children? Though the Gospels did not reflect an extensive ministry to children, it would be wrong to assume that there was no ministry to them at all. The Disciples of Jesus had to have their understanding corrected with reference to ministry to children.

“Then they brought little children to Him,
that He might touch them;
but the disciples rebuked those who brought them.”
MARK 10:13

1. Little children

This reference could well include “infants”. There must have been mothers (or fathers) who could have brought their little ones to the Lord Jesus “that He might touch them”.

2. Rebuke from the Disciples

The Disciples reacted before consulting with the Lord Jesus.

a) They knew how busy Jesus was:-
i) He was preaching/teaching the masses.
ii) He was also healing/casting out demons.
iii) He had to be on guard against the scribes and Pharisees.
b) They must have thought that children would not benefit much
i) They couldn’t understand, if they were babes in arms.
ii) They would just take up precious time from the Lord Jesus!
c) They must have thought poorly of the parents
i) How could they imagine that Jesus would take time to carry little children?
ii) What were they thinking, adding on to Jesus very heavy daily schedule?
Feeling disgruntled, the Disciples spoke sternly to those who brought their little children to Jesus!

IN FOR ANOTHER SURPRISE

The Disciples were in for yet another surprise! Their busy Master loved little children too. He would find time for them somehow.
