Day 29

Text: Mark 1

"He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow." 1 Peter 1:11

GLIMPSES OF THE MINISTRY OF JESUS

Mark gives us many glimpses of the very full ministry of Jesus. Thus far we have read about how Jesus went about:-

1. Preaching the kingdom of God (Mark 1:14-15)

2. Calling people to become His disciples (Mark 1:16-20)

3. Teaching in the synagogues (Mark 1:21-22)

4. Battling the powers of the Devil, by casting out demons (Mark 1:21-27)

HOME MINISTRY

We must add one more aspect. Jesus took time to minister in homes.

“Now as soon as they had come out of the synagogue,
they entered the house of Simon and Andrew,
with James and John.
But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick with a fever,
and they told Him about her at once.
So He came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up,
and immediately the fever left her. And she served them.”
MARK 1:29-31

1. A Valid Ministry

How may we appreciate this home ministry of Jesus?

a) Food and Beverage (physical nourishment)

Jesus and the disciples need to have food and drink. A home would provide all these necessities.

b) Fellowship

In this instance, members of the family of Simon and Andrew were blessed. In a home ministry, good friends may be invited to enjoy fellowship with Jesus.

c) Special ministry to members of the household

In Simon’s home, his mother-in-law lay ill with a fever. Jesus’ presence in the home was perfect! Instantly He restored her to full health.

2. In grateful response

Simon’s mother-in-law made the most appropriate response. The moment she was well, “she served them”.
