Day 26

"He does not regard the offering anymore"

Text: Malachi 2:13

HYPOCRITICAL WORSHIP

Disobedience and Worship do not go well together. To present an offering to God despite being fully aware of breaking the commandment of God was sheer hypocrisy!

“And this is the second thing you do:
You cover the altar of the LORD with tears,
With weeping and crying;
So He does not regard the offering anymore,
Nor receive it with goodwill from your hands.”
Malachi 2:13

1. “And this is the second thing you do: You cover the altar of the LORD with tears, with weeping and crying”

a) The first thing
The presentation of the offering is in mind here.

b) The second thing
i) To weep and cry before the LORD.
ii) This is probably a reference to the Day of Atonement.
iii) This was regarded as one of the “high and holy” days in the religious calendar (Leviticus 23:26-32).

2. A solemn declaration from the LORD

a) “So He does not regard the offering anymore”
i) The LORD will not regard the offering anymore.
ii) He will not regard it even if copious tears were shed.
b) Hypocrisy would never be condoned:
i) There was awareness of the commandments of God.
ii) There was deliberate disregard for the Lord and His word.
iii) Why should the LORD accept their offering?
c) “Nor receive it with goodwill from your hands”

God will not receive with goodwill any offering from people who disobey deliberately.
