"Concerning our common salvation..."

A WONDERFUL THEME FOR WRITING

Each writer would usually find a theme to write about. The theme of salvation is a wonderful topic to write about. There would so much to appreciate about the salvation we have in Christ.

“Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you
concerning our common salvation…”

Jude 3

1. “Beloved”

a) This was a common term of address.
b) The Apostles use this term frequently (Peter, Paul, John).
c) This term reflects a number of things: –
i) It reflects the heart of love of the writer.
ii) It further reflects the practice of what the Lord Jesus had commanded (John 13:34-35).
iii) There was an obvious affectionate relationship between the writer and his readers.

2. “While I was very diligent to write to you”

a) The word that is translated “diligent” has other nuances.
b) The other nuances include: –
i) Eagerness
ii) Zeal
c) Jude was obviously a deeply motivated writer.
d) He wrote to say that he was eagerly looking forward to writing to his readers.

3. “Concerning our common salvation”

a) There is nothing “common” about our salvation.
b) Our salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ is unique.
i) God gave His only beloved Son to bring us salvation.
ii) Jesus had to shed His life’s blood in order to make salvation possible.
iii) Our salvation is to be deeply treasured.
c) What Jude mean when he wrote the phrase “common salvation”.
i) Jude and his readers shared in the same salvation that is found in Christ Jesus.
ii) They shared a common bond of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
iii) They shared a common love and hope found in the Lord.
