"I am the LORD your God"

Text: Joel 2:27

KNOWLEDGE OF GOD

We often take knowledge for granted. Knowledge is reduced to mere information. The knowledge that God desired Israel to have was certainly not just theoretical knowledge!

“Then you shall know that I am in the midst of Israel:
I am the LORD your God
And there is no other.
My people shall never be put to shame.”
Joel 2:27

1. “Then you shall know that I am in the midst of Israel”

a) Israel paid lip service to their faith in God.
b) The nation did not appreciate that God was present with the people.
c) The knowledge that God had in mind:
i) A conscious knowledge of God.
ii) A correct understanding of God.
iii) A close relationship with God.
d) But this kind of knowledge of God was absent.
i) God’s presence was not understood.
ii) His presence was not real.
iii) His presence meant little to the nation.

2. “I am the LORD your God and there is no other”

a) Israel had a plethora of idol worshipers.
b) God was reduced to just one more deity.
c) God rejected this approach:
i) He is the LORD their God.
ii) This had been established from the days of Moses (Deuteronomy 29).
iii) There wasn’t any other deity that could be compared to the LORD.

3. “My people shall never be put to shame”

a) God took Israel as His people (Deuteronomy 7:6).
b) He would provide for them abundantly.
c) He would also protect them.
d) The nation need not fear that they would be let down by the LORD.
e) They need never be ashamed of the LORD for they were His people and His treasure.
