Day 25

"Then the LORD will be zealous for His land"

Text: Joel 2:18

A POSSIBLE RESPONSE FROM THE LORD

Joel wanted to encourage all who were assembled to pray with hope in their hearts.

“Then the LORD will be zealous for His land,
And pity His people.
The LORD will answer and say to His people,
‘Behold, I will send you grain and new wine and oil,
And you will be satisfied by them;
I will no longer make you a reproach among the nations.'”
Joel 2:18-19

1. “Then the LORD will be zealous for His land, and pity His people”

a) This is a hoped-for response.
b) Because of the gross sins committed, there was no guarantee that this would happen.
c) Strong sense of hope:
i) God would be zealous for His land.
ii) He would also pity His people.

2. “The LORD will answer and say to His people”

a) This is another “hoped-for” response.
b) The nation can only hope in prayer.

3. Possible words that God would say to His people

a) “Behold, I will send you grain and new wine and oil”
i) All three items were in short supply.
ii) The word “Behold” would suggest that this would be a new and positive response from God.
iii) The Lord would once again speak to His people.
iv) He would supply all their needs.
b) “And you will be satisfied by them”
i) The Lord’s provision would be sufficient.
ii) The people would be satisfied by God’s ample provision.
c) “I will no longer make you a reproach among the nations”
i) The yoke of bondage would be broken.
ii) Israel would not be captives forever.
iii) They would no longer be despised and reproached by Gentile nations.
iv) They would know that God has restored them fully.
