"The Gentiles shall come to your light..."

Text: Isaiah 60:3

GOD’S PROPHETIC WORD

The word preached by the prophets served many purposes. The following may be highlighted: –

1. It revealed the future.

2. God’s will was made known by the prophets.

3. God’s will, being deep and profound, had many facets.

4. Israel was ever in God’s heart and mind.

5. But in the new covenant, Gentiles were definitely included.

GOD’S PLAN FOR THE GENTILES

The Lord’s will certainly included the Gentiles. The following text demonstrates this.

“Arise, shine;
For your light has come!
And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you.
For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth,
And deep darkness the people;
But the LORD will arise over you,
And His glory will be seen upon you.
The Gentiles shall come to your light,
And kings to the brightness of your rising.”
Isaiah 60:1-3

1. A similar prophecy

a) This prophecy is very similar to that found in Isaiah 9.
b) Except that this text expands the teaching of Isaiah 9 to include the Gentiles.

2. The light shining in the darkness

a) That light was the Lord Jesus Christ.
b) He would be that light that would shine in Galilee of the Gentiles (Matthew 4:14-16).
c) That light would be extended to Gentiles far and wide.

3. The glory of the Lord

a) This will be manifested.
b) Jesus was that special glory of God (John 1:14).
c) That glory would be seen in a number of ways: –
i) In the salvation that would be given.
ii) In the Church that the Lord Jesus would build and through it Gentiles would be reached.
