"What does the LORD your God require of you..."

Text: Deuteronomy 10:12

REQUIREMENT FROM THE LORD

The following text is an important one for it highlights what God requires from His people! The requirement is to be fulfilled whether we are in the Old or in the New Covenant.

“And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you,
but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and to
love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and
with all your soul, and to keep the commandments of the LORD
and His statutes which I command you today for your good?”
Deuteronomy 10:12-13

1. The covenant relationship between God and Israel

a) Thus the word “requirement” may be used.
b) The Covenant agreement makes it possible for God to speak of “requirement”.

2. What does the LORD require of His people?

Five things were highlighted: –

a) To fear the LORD.
b) To walk in His ways.
c) To love Him.
d) To serve the LORD with all the heart and soul.
e) To keep the commandments of the Lord and His statutes.

3. “For your good”

a) This thought must be borne in mind at all times.
b) It would be good to ponder this thought in greater depth.

THE KEEPING OF GOD’S LAWS ULTIMATELY BENEFITS THE INDIVIDUAL
