"The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this"

Text: Isaiah 9:7

THE THRONE OF DAVID

It was the LORD who promised David an established kingdom (2 Samuel 7:16). This promise was applied to the reign of the Messiah.

“Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice
From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.”
Isaiah 9:7

1. The original promise of the LORD to David.

“And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you.
Your throne shall be established forever.”
2 Samuel 7:16

a) David’s house.

b) His kingdom.

c) His throne.

d) They will be established forever.

2. The fulfilment of this promise.

a) This promise of an eternal kingdom would be fulfilled in the Messiah.

b) He would be a descendant of David.

c) His kingdom would be established forever.

3. The earthly sons of David.

a) Nobody was a worthy heir.

b) All had fallen short.

c) Some kings were wicked and idolatrous.

4. Some aspects of the Messianic kingdom highlighted.

a) His government and peace will have no end.

b) The kingdom will keep on increasing in quantity and quality.

c) It would be ordered and established with judgment and justice forever.

5. The LORD of hosts.

a) He will personally see to the fulfilment of this promise.

b) He will perform His word with holy and divine zeal.
