"Seek the LORD while He may be found"

Text: Isaiah 55:6

SEEKING THE LORD

Wise and gracious advice was given to all who desire to know God and to relate to Him. These words of admonition must be pursued genuinely.

“Seek the LORD while He may be found,
Call upon Him while He is near.
Let the wicked forsake his way,
And the unrighteous man his thoughts;
Let him return to the LORD,
And He will have mercy on him;
And to our God,
For He will abundantly pardon.”
Isaiah 55:6-7

1. Seeking and Calling

a) They are closely related actions.

b) Seeking the LORD must be accompanied by calling upon Him.

c) A sense of urgency must be felt.

i) The LORD may be found.

ii) He is near to those who call upon Him earnestly.

iii) The invitation to seek God must not be taken lightly.

2. A word of admonition

a) The wicked

i) He must repent.

ii) He must forsake his wicked ways.

b) The unrighteous

i) He must forsake his unrighteous thoughts.

ii) He must return to the LORD humbly.

3. How God will respond to the penitent sinner.

a) The LORD will grant mercy.

b) He will abundantly pardon all who turn to Him genuinely.

c) God’s grace and mercy must not be taken for granted.
