"My kindness shall not depart from you"

Text: Isaiah 54:10

THE COVENANT OF NOAH

The LORD gave a Covenant to Noah after His judgment meted out against the ungodly and wicked. In that Covenant God promised that He would never destroy the earth with a great global flood again (Genesis 8).

“‘For this is like the waters of Noah to Me;
For as I have sworn
That the waters of Noah would no longer cover the earth,
So have I sworn
That I would not be angry with you, nor rebuke you.
For the mountains shall depart
And the hills be removed,
But My kindness shall not depart from you,
Nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,’
Says the LORD, who has mercy on you.”
Isaiah 54:9-10

b) He swore that He would never cover the earth with water again.

2. God’s oath to Israel.

iv) The people must return to God and walk in righteousness.

3. The kindness of the LORD.

a) He will never remove His kindness.

b) The mountains and hills may be removed:

i) Through erosion.

ii) Through disaster.

iii) But His kindness would remain.

4. The Covenant of peace.

a) This must be understood as a “New Covenant”.

b) The Covenant given at Sinai was still in existence.

c) Three features of the New Covenant highlighted:

i) God’s Kindness.

ii) God’s peace.

iii) God’s mercy.

d) The “New Covenant” was specifically mentioned in Jeremiah 31:31-40.
