"You are My witnesses"

Text: Isaiah 43:10

A CALL FOR WITNESSES

Witnesses are called to give their testimonies in court cases. But would blind people be able to bear witness? Would the deaf also be able to bear witness?

“Bring out the blind people who have eyes,
And the deaf who have ears.
Let all the nations be gathered together,
And let the people be assembled.
Who among them can declare this,
And show us former things?
Let them bring out their witnesses, that they may be justified;
Or let them hear and say, ‘It is truth.’
‘You are My witnesses,’ says the LORD,
‘And My servant whom I have chosen,
That you may know and believe Me,
And understand that I am He.
Before Me there was no God formed,
Nor shall there be after Me.'”
Isaiah 43:8-10

1. A reference to Idols.

a) They have ears but they do not hear.

b) They have eyes but they do not see.

c) The Gentile nations all worshipped idols and the worshippers are both blind and deaf.

d) But can these idols prevent God from bringing the Exiled Ones back to Israel?

2. A challenge to all the nations that do not know God.

a) Can they bring forth witnesses?

b) Can they make reference to former things that had come to pass?

c) Can they point to “Truth” and then verify it?

d) Can they justify their belief in the worship of idols? (Isaiah 41:21-24)

e) The answer to all these questions was an expected “No!”

3. Israel as God’s witness.

a) When God brings back the captivity of Israel, they will bear effective witness.

b) Israel would become God’s chosen servant.

c) When they see the reality of the return of Israel:

i) Many will know.

ii) They will believe.

iii) They will understand.

iv) That there is no one like God before or after.

v) The LORD is the only God there is to know and believe in.
