Day 215

"This is a rebellious people"

Text: Isaiah 30:9

A STRONG MESSAGE FROM THE LORD

Isaiah was instructed by the LORD to write a special message to the children of Israel. This was a candid and stern word of rebuke from the LORD!

“Now go, write it before them on a tablet,
And note it on a scroll,
That it may be for time to come,
Forever and ever:
That this is a rebellious people,
Lying children,
Children who will not hear the law of the LORD;
Who say to the seers, ‘Do not see,’
And to the prophets, ‘Do not prophesy to us right things;
Speak to us smooth things, prophesy deceits.
Get out of the way,
Turn aside from the path,
Cause the Holy One of Israel
To cease from before us.'”
Isaiah 30:8-11

1. Instruction from the LORD.

a) Isaiah was given instruction from the LORD.

b) He was to write this prophetic word down.

c) The prophecy would be fulfilled in due time.

d) As in every word God had given, this word would stand forever and ever.

2. Comments about Israel.

a) They were rebellious.

b) They were given to lying.

3. Examples of the sinful things done by Israel.

a) They spoke rudely to the seers.

i) “Do not see”
But a seer’s distinctive ministry was “seeing”.

ii) A seer who does not see will have his ministry ended.

b) They spoke as rudely to the prophets.

i) “Do not prophesy to us the right things”
They refused to heed messages that teach “the right things”.

ii) “Speak to us smooth things, prophesy deceits”
They will listen if the prophets speak things that are pleasant sounding.

c) The children of Israel.

i) They sought to control the seers and the prophets.

ii) They sought to corrupt them if possible.

iii) They would resort to any means available to them
to avoid hearing what God had to say to them.

4. The bottom line.

a) They want the seers and prophets to get out of their way.

b) They want a cessation of any word from the LORD.

c) This was outright rejection of the LORD.
