Day 80

"Without Me they shall bow down among the prisoners"

Text: Isaiah 10:4

LIFE WITHOUT THE LORD

A series of questions were raised up to Israel and Judah. They had already effectively departed from the LORD. The questions were sobering and relevant.

“‘What will you do in the day of punishment,
And in the desolation which will come from afar?
To whom will you flee for help?
And where will you leave your glory?
Without Me they shall bow down among the prisoners,
And they shall fall among the slain.’
For all this His anger is not turned away,
But His hand is stretched out still.”
Isaiah 10:3-4

1. A series of questions:

a) What would the people do when the day of punishment comes?

i) The people would suffer desolation.

ii) The enemies would come from afar.

b) To whom would the people turn when they need help?

i) Since they have spurned God, they would not turn to Him for help.

ii) The idols they worshipped could not give them the help they needed.

iii) They could not turn to “allies” for they would be too weak to offer help.

c) Where would they leave their glory?

i) There was pride of their wealth.

ii) The wealth would go to their children, so they hoped.

iii) But when war comes, both wealth and population would be diminished.
What would happen to the glory they basked in?

2. A sobering reality.

a) They had rejected God and that was a fatal mistake.

b) Without God’s help:

i) Many would become prisoners.

ii) Many would be slain in battle.

3. The anger of the LORD.

a) His righteous anger was not withdrawn.

b) His hand against Israel and Judah was still stretched out.

c) This was mentioned repeatedly.

i) In the hope that the people would learn to fear the LORD.

ii) And in humility seek His forgiveness and help.
