Day 13

"Zion shall be redeemed with justice"

Text: Isaiah 1:27

DELIVERANCE AND JUDGMENT

Many in the days of the prophet Isaiah had turned away from the LORD. But there were those who remained faithful and steadfast. The LORD sent a message to both groups.

“Zion shall be redeemed with justice,
And her penitents with righteousness.
The destruction of transgressors and of
sinners shall be together,
And those who forsake the LORD shall be consumed.”
Isaiah 1:27-28

1. The promise of Divine deliverance.

a) Zion

i) This was the spiritual name for Jerusalem.

ii) This was a term of affection.

iii) Many believed that if they domiciled in Jerusalem,
they would escape God’s judgment.

iv) This was an incorrect understanding.

v) The LORD would only deliver those who are truly righteous.

vi) The righteous are described as humble and penitent.

b) Deliverance was promised to Zion.

i) But it would be a deliverance with divine justice in mind.

ii) It is not given to everyone residing in Jerusalem.

iii) It is promised only to the righteous penitents.

iv) Those who were wicked but dwelling in Jerusalem
would be judged by the LORD.

2. The warning of Divine judgment.

a) A short list of those who will not be delivered was given.

b) The following will be judged and will not be delivered:

i) The rebellious (transgressors) will be judged.

ii) The unrepentant sinners will not be spared but be judged as the transgressors.

iii) Those who forsake the LORD will perish.
