Text: Hosea 2:21

THE PROMISE OF DIVINE ANSWERS

The promise of a divine betrothal is breath-taking! Nothing could be said more movingly and beautifully.

“‘It shall come to pass in that day
That I will answer,’ says the LORD;
‘I will answer the heavens,
And they shall answer the earth.
The earth shall answer
With grain,
With new wine,
And with oil;
They shall answer Jezreel.'”
Hosea 2:21-22

1. Jezreel in the original historical context

a) This was a geographical reference.
b) It was the place where King Ahab robbed Naboth of his inheritance.
c) It was also the place where justice was carried out when King Ahab was killed there.

2. Jezreel would become a symbolic word

a) It would symbolize hope and justice.
b) It would symbolize a new beginning.

3. Israel’s cries for justice and help

a) God will answer Israel when its cries reach heaven.
b) God will answer and both heaven and earth will bear witness that God has answered prayers.

4. The answers that God would give

a) These would be answers that Israel would understand.
b) Israel’s fears and concerns were for physical provisions.
c) God would give to Israel the betrothed all that she would need.
i) Grain
ii) New wine
iii) Oil

WHAT THE ANSWERS FROM GOD MEAN

What is the significance of the answers that God would give to His betrothed Israel?

1. He is a faithful and glorious God.

2. He is a Covenant-keeping God. (A betrothal is truly like a covenant in more ways than one.)

3. There is no reason for Israel to depart from the LORD God who has proven Himself to be the most wonderful Husband that she could wish for!
