"They were filled and their heart was exalted"

Text: Hosea 13:6

FORGETTING THE LORD

When Israel was poor and needy, there was dependence upon the LORD. But when they entered into the Promised Land, their heart began to change for the worse.

“When they had pasture, they were filled;
They were filled and their heart was exalted;
Therefore they forgot Me.”
Hosea 13:6

1. A sharp contrast made

a) When Israel was in the wilderness (Hosea 13:5).
b) When Israel was in the land of Canaan (Hosea 13:6).

2. “When they had pasture”

a) This cannot be a reference to the wilderness.
b) This can only be a reference to Canaan.

3. “They were filled”

a) Israel conquered the land.
b) They began to settle in.
c) Prosperity came next.
d) They were filled with good things:
i) Food
ii) Fruitfulness

4. “They were filled and their heart was exalted”

a) One thing led to another.
b) Israel’s heart became exalted.

5. “Therefore they forgot Me”

a) They had forgotten the Person of the Lord and turned to idols instead.
b) They forgot the Protection of the Lord.
c) They had forgotten the Provision of the Lord.
d) They had also forgotten the Power of the Lord.
e) They had forgotten the Promises of the Lord to bless them.
f) They had forgotten that they were the People of the Lord.
g) These things were Prophesied (Deuteronomy 8:11-20).
