"The priests always went into the first part of the tabernacle..."

Text: Hebrews 9:6b

THE PRIESTLY MINISTRY

The holy articles of the Tabernacle were duly noted by the author of Hebrews, even though he did not wish to elaborate on them a whole lot. Of necessity mention must be made concerning the priestly ministry.

“Now when these things had been thus prepared,
the priests always went into the first part of the tabernacle,
performing the services.”
Hebrews 9:6

1. When these things had been thus prepared

a) The holy articles were beautifully crafted by skilled artisans.
b) These ancient craftsmen were filled with great “wisdom and understanding” so that they could fulfil their tasks properly (Cf. Exodus 36:1-2)
c) After all the holy articles were prepared the Tabernacle was consecrated (Cf. Exodus 40)

2. The priests always went into the first part of the tabernacle

i) They were confined to the area of “the sanctuary” (Hebrews 9:2)
ii) They were to attend to the physical objects in the Holy Place.
b) They were at all times to maintain holiness:-
i) Ritual holiness
ii) Personal holiness
iii) There were many laws regarding this matter (Cf. Leviticus).

3. Performing the services

a) Services with reference to Israel as a nation.
i) Morning sacrifice
ii) Evening sacrifice
b) Services with reference to individuals who wished to make special offerings.
