"For such a High Priest was fitting for us..."

Text: Hebrews 7:26

WHAT KIND OF A HIGH PRIEST DO WE HAVE?

The author of Hebrews sought to encourage his readers to have full trust in Jesus as the Great High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek. There is absolutely none like Him!

“For such a High Priest was fitting for us,
who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners;
and has become higher than the heavens.”
Hebrews 7:26

1. For such a High priest was fitting for us

a) We do need such a great High Priest.
b) We are unbelievably sinful in heart, in mind and in deed.

2. The perfect High Priest

a) Holy
i) He needs to be holy in order to intercede for us successfully.
ii) He is immaculately holy.
b) Harmless
i) He would not seek to harm us.
ii) He has no intention of harming us whatsoever.
c) Undefiled
This underscores the idea of being perfectly “holy”.
d) Separate from sinners
i) He is totally unlike us… with reference to sinfulness.
ii) We need such a High Priest who is not like us (with reference to sin).
e) Higher than the heavens
i) This speaks of the greatness of Jesus our High Priest.
ii) His glory fills heaven and earth.
iii) This is our eternal and perfect High Priest.
