Day 123

"To Him who was able to save Him from death..."

Text: Hebrews 5:7

EXAMINING THE WAY WE PRAY

As we examine the way we pray we cannot but seek to improve. We are sometimes guilty of the following:-

1. We only use words in prayer.

2. We lack compassion in prayer.

3. We lack emotional involvement in prayer.

LEARNING ANOTHER VITAL LESSON

There is another vital lesson in prayer that we must learn from the following text.

“Who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up
prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears
to Him who was able to save Him from death”
Hebrews 5:7

1. Important Consciousness of God

a) Jesus was acutely conscious of the needs of the people He prayed for.
b) He was just as acutely conscious of His Father to whom He offered up prayers.

2. Important Content in His consciousness of God

a) To Him who was able
i) Jesus knew the strength and power of His Father even as He prayed.
ii) He knew that His Father had the power to save.
iii) There was absolute faith in His heart in God even as He prayed.
b) To save from death
i) The biggest obstacle to faith would probably be the problem of “death”. (Death seems so fearfully final)
ii) Jesus believed in the full extent of His Father’s power- He is able to rescue a person from death.

Jesus exercised fullness of consciousness of God and His power in His prayers. This is another dimension of prayer that we would do well to cultivate.
