He who has entered His rest...

Text: Hebrews 4:10

THE BURDENSOME TASK

Ecclesiastes is a book that offers profound wisdom! The writer (King Solomon) calls himself “The Preacher” in his book. In the opening chapter of his book he spoke about his purpose of writing. He wanted to discover “the meaning of life.” One of the things that he sought to comprehend may be found in the following text.

“I, the Preacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem.
And I set my heart to seek and search out by wisdom
concerning all that is done under heaven;
this burdensome task God has given to the sons of man,
by which they may be exercised.”
Ecclesiastes 1:12-13

One of the conclusions reached was carefully recorded in the following text.

“For what has man for all his labour, and for the striving
of his heart with which he has toiled under the sun?
For all his days are sorrowful, and his work burdensome;
even in the night his heart takes no rest. This also is vanity.”
Ecclesiastes 2:22-23

REST FROM THE BURDENSOME TASK

There is a rest that God especially offers. This is welcome “rest”!

“For he who has entered into His rest has himself
Also ceased from his works as God did from His.”
Hebrews 4:10
