"Faithful to Him who appointed Him..."

Text: Hebrews 3:2

HOW DID JESUS PERFORM IN HIS MINISTRY?

May we ask how Jesus performed in His ministry? The author of Hebrews had this to say to all who sought to assess how Jesus performed His task(s) on earth.

“Who was faithful to Him who appointed Him,
as Moses also was faithful in all His house.”
Hebrews 3:2

1. The mention of Moses

a) He is hailed as the most outstanding servant of God in the history of Israel.
b) The most significant word that best described Moses was that he was “faithful”.
c) Note the eulogy written to honour Moses.

“But since then there has not arisen in Israel a prophet like Moses,
whom the LORD knew face to face, in all the signs and wonders
which the LORD sent him to do in the land of Egypt, before
Pharaoh before all his servants, and in all his land, and by all
that mighty power and all the great terror which Moses performed
in the sight of all Israel.”
Deuteronomy 34:10-12

d) No one could be compared with Moses before.

2. Jesus was compared to Moses

a) The comparative particle (“hos”) was used to denote “comparison”.
i) Jesus was measured against the mighty angels of God (Cf. Hebrews 1).
ii) He is now measured against the most outstanding servant of God of all time.
b) Jesus was adjudged “faithful” (“piston”).
i) Jesus was faithful to God who appointed Him.
ii) The tasks that God had assigned Him were faithfully completed.
c) He was adjudged as faithful as Moses was.
i) This was a “high level yardstick” being used.
ii) No one had been successfully compared to Moses until Jesus came!
