"But we see Jesus... "

Text: Hebrews 2:9a

BUT WE SEE JESUS

The connection between Psalm 8 and Jesus may be seen in the following text.

“But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower
than the angels”

Hebrews 2:9a

1. Jesus

As we “see Jesus” in this text, we must also remember what the author of Hebrews had said about Him (in the previous chapter).

a) He was described as “better than the angels” (Cf. Hebrews 1:4)
b) He was called “Son” (Cf. Hebrews 1:5)
c) Angels were to “worship Him” (Cf. Hebrews 1:6)
d) He has a throne (Cf. Hebrews 1:8a)
e) He was described as “God” (Cf. Hebrews 1:8b)
f) He was Co-Creator (Cf. Hebrews 1:2, 10)

2. “Who was made a little lower than the angels”

How should we understand this phrase in the light of the above?

a) We must note the connection between Psalm 8 and Jesus.
b) Jesus is being described as “made a little lower than the angels”.
c) He cannot divest Himself of His Divine Nature so He is thus God-Man.
i) On the one hand He is to be worshipped as God.
ii) On the other hand He is subject to all the limitations of man.
d) Jesus, as Man, bore all the marks of nobility as God originally designed it.
i) He wore the “brightness of (God’s) glory” (Cf. Hebrews 1:3a)
ii) He was the “express image of His person” (Cf. Hebrews 1:3b)
e) Jesus donned flesh to fill the most important purpose- to become our Saviour!
