Day 25

"So great a salvation..."

Text: Hebrews 2:3

MAN’S GREATEST CONCERN

What should be man’s greatest concern? We would probably have as many different views as people interviewed. Popular answers would include:-

1. Livelihood

2. Health

3. Education

4. Religion

GOD’S GREATEST CONCERN

What is God’s greatest concern about man? One of the most moving texts that expresses God’s greatest concern about man may be found in the following text.

“‘Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel,
every one according to his ways,’ says the LORD God.
‘Repent, and turn from all your transgressions, so that iniquity
will not be your ruin. Cast away from you all the transgressions
which you have committed, and get yourselves a new heart
and a new spirit. For why should you die, O house of Israel?
for I have no pleasure in the death of one who dies,’
says the LORD God. ‘Therefore turn and live.'”

Ezekiel 18:30-32

The following thoughts are enumerated for easier comprehension.

1. Judgment has to take place one day.

2. The sentence of death would be inevitable to those who did not repent.

3. However salvation was made possible. A new heart and a new spirit were promised.

4. God has no pleasure in judging and sentencing anyone to death (“Why should you die?”)

5. He would rather have people turn away from their sins and live!

GOD’S PLAN OF SALVATION

How would you describe God’s plan of salvation? The author of Hebrews described it wonderfully though succinctly.

“So great a salvation?”

Hebrews 2:3

To describe the idea of “greatness” an unusual demonstrative pronoun (telikautes) was used deliberately. This was used to bring out the “greatness” of this plan of salvation.
