"In every good work to do His will..."

Text: Hebrews 13:21

DEEP INSIGHTS

The writer of Hebrews benediction was rich and deep in insight. His prayer of blessing was not for a life of ease. This was his idea of what it means to be truly blessed by God.

“Make you complete in every good work to do His will…”
Hebrews 13:21b

1. It takes “completeness” (“fully trained” Cf. Luke 6:40)

a) A believer must seek to be a disciple.
b) It is in and through the process of discipleship that he becomes “complete” or “fully trained”.
c) Only then can he hope to enter into the next part of God’s plan of salvation and blessing.

2. Every good work

a) Good works do not merit salvation.
b) Our salvation is based upon the grace of God.
c) However good works must ensue from the life of every genuine believer.
d) Note this emphasis on good works:-
i) Jesus taught His disciples to do good works (Cf. Matthew 5:16).
ii) Paul made a similar emphasis (Cf. 1 Timothy 6:18).

3. To do His will

a) The example of Jesus must be borne in mind (Cf. John 4:34; 9:4).
i) He sought always to do His Father’s Will (Cf. John 5:30).
ii) His whole focus was to do His Father’s will (Cf. Hebrews 10:7).
b) A prayer to emulate the example of Jesus in doing God’s will.

This is a truly deep benediction-prayer. It is a prayer that God would surely be pleased to hear and answer. May we desire such blessings!
