"Strengthen the hands which hang down..."

Text: Hebrews 12:12

MORE THAN HAVING A CORRECT PERSPECTIVE

Having a correct perspective of God’s work of correction or chastening is of great importance. But having a right perspective in itself is not sufficient! The following text was written to add the extra ingredient that would make the vital difference.

“Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down,
and the feeble knees…”
Hebrews 12:12

1. Therefore strengthen

a) The place of the inferential “therefore” must be noted.
b) Having a correct perspective is good and important but something else must be added
c) If there is a correct perspective then there must be a definite and positive follow through.
d) There must be strength.
i) Perspective must be accompanied by strength.
ii) Strength without perspective would not enable a person to learn the deep lessons God desires to teach.
iii) Perspective without strength would not enable a person to cope with chastening.

2. Strengthen the hands which hang down

a) The hands represent strength.
b) Hands which hang down describe a person who is defeated.
c) Strengthened hands would see the person fight on with understanding and a corrected perspective of what God is doing in His work of chastening.

3. And the feeble knees

a) Knees which are feeble would not enable a person to walk very much, or very far.
b) Knees which are feeble must be strengthened.

Strong hands and strong knees must be added to a correct perspective!
