"By faith he kept the Passover..."
Text: Hebrews 11:28
THE OBSERVANCE OF THE PASSOVER
The feast of the Passover was instituted by the Lord Himself (Cf. Exodus 12). This feast was to commemorate a most significant event.
“For I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night,
and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt,
both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt
I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.”
Exodus 12:12
God would execute judgment on the people and the gods worshipped! The firstborn would die! How would anyone escape this dire punishment? God made provision.
“Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses
where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you;
and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike
the land of Egypt.”
Exodus 12:13
AN IMPORTANT COMMENTARY
How did Moses keep that first Passover? The following text is an important commentary.
“By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood,
lest He who destroyed the firstborn should touch them.”

1. By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood
a) Faith in what God had said He would do had to be exercised.
b) That faith must be expressed in the keeping of the Passover.
c) Faith taught Moses to obey the Lord to the last detail- especially with the sprinkling of blood on the houses.
d) Faith must preclude taking anything for granted.
2. Lest He who destroyed the firstborn should touch them
a) Merely being of the stock of Israel would not have saved them from being destroyed.
b) Faith must teach the heart to have a healthy fear of the Lord.
Moses possessed this requisite faith! It was the exercise of this faith, expressed in obedience that delivered the children of Israel when God passed over the land of Egypt.
