"Let us consider one another..."

Text: Hebrews 10:24

THREE STIRRING WORDS OF EXHORTATION

The author of Hebrews did not take for granted that his readers would know how to respond appropriately to what he had written! Wisely, he chose to encourage his readers with a series of exhortations that saw himself included. (The phrase “Let us” is called “hortatory” in Greek grammar. Both the writer and reader are included in this phrase. Three such words were employed). The third word of encouragement is found in this text.

“And let us consider one another in order to stir up love
and good works.”
Hebrews 10:24

1. And let us consider one another

a) The first two “Let us” focus on our relationship with the Lord.
i) Let us draw near (to the Lord) {Hebrews 10:22}.
ii) Let us hold fast the confession of our hope
b) The focus here is that of strong mutual encouragement among believers.

2. In order to stir up

a) Believers should encourage each other when they have fellowship together.
b) Fellowship in Christ was never meant to be a placid or passive thing.

3. Stir up love and good works

a) Stirring up love
The following may be stirred up:-
i) Love for the Lord
ii) Love for the Church
iii) Love for the brethren
iv) Love for ministry
b) Stirring up good works
Through mutual fellowship we can stir each other up to do even more “good works” that would redound to the glory of God, and to the benefit of brethren in need!
