"Let us draw near with a true heart..."

Text: Hebrews 10:22

APPROPRIATE RESPONSE

How should we respond to this knowledge of “a new and living way” into The Holiest? The author of Hebrews suggested the most appropriate response in the following text!

“Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith,
having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience
and our bodies washed with pure water.”
Hebrews 10:22

1. Let us draw near

a) This is the most logical response (mind).
b) It is also the most natural response (heart).

2. With a true heart in full assurance of faith

a) A “true heart” describes “genuineness”.
b) “Full assurance of faith” highlights the place of “faith” when we come to the Presence of God.

3. Having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience

a) The word “heart” is linked with the “conscience”.
b) Where the conscience is evil so is the heart.
c) Where the heart has been sprinkled clean so has the conscience been made clean.
d) The word “sprinkled” reminds us of how the blood of the Covenant was used to consecrate and sanctify the Tabernacle (Cf. Hebrews 9:19-21).
e) The blood of Christ is in mind here; His blood cleansed all genuine believers!
f) The most evil of consciences may be sprinkled clean by the blood of Christ!

4. Our bodies washed with pure water

a) “Heart”, “conscience” and “bodies” are linked together to describe the whole person.
b) “Washed” speaks of being “thoroughly cleansed”. (We stand clean in the sight of God through the blood of Christ)!
