"I will put My laws into their hearts..."

Text: Hebrews 10:16b

SOME ASPECTS OF THE NEW COVENANT HIGHLIGHTED

The New Covenant had certain features that were wonderfully uplifting! The following text brings this out marvelously.

“I will put My laws into their hearts,
And in their minds I will write them.”
Hebrews 10:16b

1. God as our Divine Teacher

a) Pleading with God to be Teacher was a prayer made by the psalmists.
b) The following made this their constant plea:-
i) King David (Cf. Psalm 25:4-5; 86:11)
ii) The author of Psalm 119 (Cf. Psalm 119:26-27)

2. God’s teaching goals

a) I will put My laws into their hearts:-
i) The word “laws” is not necessarily a reference to the Mosaic laws.
ii) This word simply describes the Word of God.
iii) All that come from the Lord may indeed be described as “Laws”.
iv) These laws would be inscribed upon the heart.
b) In their minds I will write them:-
i) These laws would enlighten the mind.
ii) They would be implanted upon the mind.
iii) They would be things that would be well-understood.
iv) They would be food for thought for the believer.

3. The part of the believer

Let us truly stand in awe of this truth! Let us treasure the Lord God as our Divine Teacher! Let us be sure that we make an appropriate response to this truth! Let us learn how to hide God’s truth in our hearts and minds with a deep sense of appreciation.
