Day 22

"I will shake heaven and earth"

Text: Haggai 2:21

UNDER FOREIGN RULE

Israel had suffered grave defeat from two powerful empires. The nation suffered not only physically but also psychologically. The people were always afraid that they would be conquered and ruled by another nation.

1. The Assyrians

They had conquered Israel and destroyed the Northern kingdom in 722 BC.

2. The Babylonians

They conquered the Assyrians and then destroyed the Southern kingdom in 586 BC.

3. They had returned to Judah in the reign of the Persians.

But as a nation, the people were still under foreign rule.

AN AWESOME PROPHECY

Haggai gave a powerful prophetic message to the remnant. They must exercise faith in what God would do.

“And again the word of the LORD came to Haggai on the twenty-fourth day of the month, saying,
‘Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying:
“I will shake heaven and earth.
I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms;
I will destroy the strength of the Gentile kingdoms.
I will overthrow the chariots
And those who ride in them;
The horses and their riders shall come down,
Every one by the sword of his brother.”‘”
