DIFFICULTY IN COMPREHENDING THE CONCEPT OF GOD’S JUDGMENT

There are some who find it very difficult to accept any suggestion of God’s judgment. The following arguments are often presented:-

1. How can a Loving God judge and condemn people?

How valid is this argument? This argument is actually badly flawed. Let us examine some of the weaknesses found in this statement:-

a) God has not ceased to be loving!

He strove with man in their conscience to repent from their ways, but they would not. He limited their life span, and even then they refused to amend their ways.

Noah chose to walk with this gracious and loving God, rejecting the wicked ways of the world! If he could do that, why not the rest of the world?

b) People have to be held accountable

This is a basic universal principle! If wicked people feel that they can get away while perpetrating evil deeds, then God would have been derelict in His duties!

2. Why wouldn’t God give them “a second chance”?

Did God fail to give them “a second chance”? God gave them hundreds of chances to repent from their wicked ways. They refused to change!

a) A Mistaken concept

We must not assume that when people are given “a second chance” they would necessarily grab that opportunity and make amends.

b) Interminable Chances

When people speak of a “second chance”, they imagine that those chances are interminable and must lead to God forgiving or it is not counted.

GOD’S PREROGATIVES

What are some of the prerogatives of God? Does it include the right to judge wicked people who persist in pursuing and perpetrating evil? Assuredly! This is the Biblical concept even if it is not man’s preferred understanding. Let God be God! With Divinity comes power and authority. God exercised them in both love and holiness!

GOD’S GRACE GIVEN TO NOAH

God’s grace was offered to all! All bore His Image! Creation told of God’s power and majesty. There were witnesses like Enoch and Noah. God cannot be blamed when He planned to judge the earth. In the midst of sorting out our thoughts concerning the Flood that engulfed the earth, let us remember this text.

“But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.”
