Day 63

"You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus."

Text: Galatians 3:26

SONS OF GOD

What a glorious statement of faith and trust we have in this text.

For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 3:26

1. Ramifications of Justification

Some of these are highlighted in Galatians:-

a) Christ gave Himself for our sins (Galatians 1:4a).
b) We are delivered from this present evil age (Galatians 1:4b).
c) Christ lives in us (Galatians 2:20).
d) We have received the Holy Spirit who works in us (Galatians 3:3, 5).
e) Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law (Galatians 3:13).
f) The blessings of Abraham are given to those who are justified (Galatians 3:14).

2. “Sons of God”

a) This is a huge point that Paul wanted to highlight.
b) This phrase was used to describe the angels of God (Job 1:6).
c) Israel was described as “sons” and “daughters” (Isaiah 43:6).
d) This phrase “sons of God” was now used to describe ALL who are justified by Christ.

3. “Through faith in Christ Jesus”

a) Not through ethnic lineage (The physical descendants of Abraham).
b) Not through religious observance (Judaism).
c) Faith in Jesus Christ was the means of obtaining justification.

THE LIMITATIONS OF THE LAW

The limitations of the law become even more obvious!

1. It could never bring about justification.

2. It was not unimportant because it had a special role as a tutor.

3. But the works of the law could never cause people to become “sons of God”.

4. This was a strong apostolic doctrine believed in and preached by all the apostles of Christ.

a) The leading apostles like Peter, John and James would be in full agreement.
b) At the Jerusalem Council the apostles agreed that God made no distinction between Jews and Gentiles (Acts 15:8-9).
