"He who supplies the Spirit to you..."

Text: Galatians 3:5a

THE SPIRIT OF GOD

The role of the Spirit of God was of fundamental significance as the apostles understood the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Three leading apostles may be cited:-

1. The apostle John

The Spirit of God brings about the new birth (John 3:3).

2. The apostle Peter

The Spirit of God sanctifies every believer (1 Peter 1:2).

3. The apostle Paul

The Spirit of God is instrumental in raising Jesus from the dead (Romans 1:4).

THE SUPPLY OF THE SPIRIT OF GOD

Paul makes reference to the Spirit of God in the following text.

Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you
and works miracles among you, does He do it
by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

Galatians 3:5

1. God’s involvement

a) God the Father is in mind here.
b) He is called the One who “supplies the Spirit”.
i) God is the Giver (“supplies”).
ii) God is the One who works miracles.

2. The Spirit of God

a) He has taken over the work of the Lord Jesus Christ.
b) He is the Promised Helper.
c) He is the Principal Person in the administration of God’s will and purposes.

3. How does the Spirit of God work?

a) Does He work because of the works of the law?
No!
b) Does He work because of faith?
Yes!

4. Works of the Law and the hearing of faith

a) They are contrasted purposefully.
b) Faith triumphs over the works of the law.
