"An epistle of Christ..."

Text: 2 Corinthians 3:3

A SPECIAL MINISTRY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is involved in many aspects of our life and ministry. One of the most moving and profound works of the Spirit of God may be found in this text.

“Clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us,
written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God,
not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart.”
2 Corinthians 3:3

1. “Clearly you are an epistle of Christ”

a) We are familiar with the Epistles written by the Apostles of Christ.
i) These epistles bore the mark of authority of the Lord Himself.
ii) They wrote under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
b) Paul now wrote about true believers.
i) As an epistle of Christ.
ii) The authority of the Lord and the work of the Spirit must be noted.

2. “Ministered by us”

a) The work of the Spirit of God is to be noted.
b) The work of the servants of God must also be duly noted.

3. “Written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God”

a) This is an invisible work of the Holy Spirit.
b) He is called “The Spirit of the living God” (most appropriately).
i) God is very much alive.
ii) He works through the Holy Spirit.
iii) His work should bring about “life” within us.

4. “Not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart”

a) The Spirit of God seeks to write upon our hearts.
b) We are meant to have hearts of flesh and not stone.

A GLORIOUS RESULT

We are supposed to become living epistles of the Lord Jesus Christ! Let us seek to bring glory to the Lord by the way we live!

1. Our lives are to reflect His work of redemption from sin and the world.

2. We are meant to reflect the image of God in holy living.
