"The Spirit...of understanding..."

Text: Isaiah 11:2

THE FULLNESS OF THE SPIRIT IN THE LIFE AND MINISTRY OF THE MESSIAH

How does that express itself in the life and ministry of the Messiah? The following text offers significant insight. This text explains how the Spirit of the LORD would impact the Messiah’s ministry.

“His delight is in the fear of the LORD,
And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes,
Nor decide by the hearing of His ears;
But with righteousness He shall judge the poor,
And decide with equity for the meek of the earth;
He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth,
And with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked.
Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins,
And faithfulness the belt of His waist.”
Isaiah 11:3-5

b) It was the seventh feature of the Spirit of the LORD mentioned in Isaiah 11:2.

2. The Judgment that the Messiah will exercise

a) What He will not do.
i) He will not judge only by what He sees.
ii) Nor will He decide only by what He hears (Isaiah 11:3).
b) How would He judge then?
i) The following verses would explain how He would exercise judgment.
ii) A careful study would reveal that He would be led by the Spirit of God in the full sense of the word.

3. Features highlighted

a) “With righteousness He shall judge the poor”
The Messiah will judge with “wisdom and understanding”.
b) “Equity”
He will judge with good “counsel”.
c) “Might”
With His lips He will slay the wicked.
d) “Faithfulness”
With profound knowledge and fear of the Lord, the Messiah would fulfil all that God had entrusted to Him to fulfil.

Without a doubt, the Messiah would experience the power of the Spirit of the Lord resting upon Him and enabling Him to fulfil His ministry perfectly!
