"Will also give life to your mortal bodies..."

Text: Romans 8:11

REGENERATION OF THE SPIRIT

One of the most profound works of the Holy Spirit may be seen in the way He regenerates the true believer.

“But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead
dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead
will also give life to your mortal bodies
through His Spirit who dwells in you.”
Romans 8:11

1. “But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead”

a) This is a clear reference to the Spirit of God.
b) God raised Jesus from the dead through the Holy Spirit.

2. “Dwells in you”

a) The Spirit of God indwells every true believer.
b) His presence is of great significance.
i) God is described as dwelling among His people.
ii) Christ is also described as dwelling in the believer.
iii) Effectively, the Holy Spirit represents both the Father and the Son.
iv) He indwells every believer as the Seal and Guarantee that we are children of God.

3. “He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life”

a) It takes Divine power to raise Jesus from the dead.
b) The Spirit of God will deploy that same Divine power in our life.
i) There is eternal life.
ii) There is also regeneration.

4. “Life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you”

a) The word “also” is essentially a conjunction.
b) An additional idea is being emphasized here.
c) The focus is “the mortal life”.
i) It is this life on earth.
ii) The Spirit of God will give life to the mortal body.

5. Example of lives that have been truly regenerated and they come alive

The best examples are the Apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ. They may have had a poor beginning but when the Spirit of God empowered them, they became outstanding. This is what God wants us to experience!
