"Its waters are healed"

Text: Ezekiel 47:8

HEALING WATERS

One of the most remarkable features of the Temple River of Life is that it was able to heal. The description here is that of the Temple River of Life reaching the Dead Sea and healing it effectively.

“When I returned, there, along the bank of the river, were very many trees on one side and the other. Then he said to me: ‘This water flows toward the eastern region, goes down into the valley, and enters the sea. When it reaches the sea, its waters are healed. And it shall be that every living thing that moves, wherever the rivers go, will live. There will be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters go there; for they will be healed, and everything will live wherever the river goes. It shall be that fishermen will stand by it from En Gedi to En Eglaim; they will be places for spreading their nets. Their fish will be of the same kinds as the fish of the Great Sea, exceedingly many. But its swamps and marshes will not be healed; they will be given over to salt. Along the bank of the river, on this side and that, will grow all kinds of trees used for food; their leaves will not wither, and their fruit will not fail. They will bear fruit every month, because their water flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for medicine.'”
Ezekiel 47:7-12

1. Making a positive impact on the environment.

a) There were trees on both sides of the riverbanks.

b) There were in fact “many trees”.

c) This was a new development that was noted.

d) These trees came about because the river brought life-giving water.

2. The region described.

a) This is the region of the Dead Sea (“the sea”).

b) The heavily salted sea would be healed completely.

c) The Dead Sea would come alive after it is healed.

i) Fishing in the Dead Sea would be possible again.

ii) Many would come to the Dead Sea to fish.

iii) It would become a healthy fishing area.

iv) The Dead Sea may even be compared to the Great Sea (The Mediterranean Sea).

3. The swamps and marshes in the region.

a) They would continue as they are.

b) The healing waters would not reach these areas.

c) Hence, the marches and swamps would offer a stark contrast to the healed and revived Dead Sea.

4. Back to the Trees on both sides of the Divine River.

a) Different kinds of fruit trees would blossom.

b) Their leaves would not wither.

c) They would bear fruit every month without fail.

d) This was because of the River from the sanctuary (Temple).

i) Their fruit would be food for the people.

ii) Even their leaves could be used medicinally.

The water from the Sanctuary was now a tremendous source of blessing to the region and to the Lord’s people who lived in His land!
