"A voluntary burnt offering"

Text: Ezekiel 46:12

VOLUNTARY OFFERINGS

The old system of worship given to the children of Israel would be brought back. These would be of Memorial and Spiritual significance.

“Now when the prince makes a voluntary burnt offering or voluntary peace offering to the Lord, the gate that faces toward the east shall then be opened for him; and he shall prepare his burnt offering and his peace offerings as he did on the Sabbath day. Then he shall go out, and after he goes out the gate shall be shut. You shall daily make a burnt offering to the Lord of a lamb of the first year without blemish; you shall prepare it every morning. And you shall prepare a grain offering with it every morning, a sixth of an ephah, and a third of a hin of oil to moisten the fine flour. This grain offering is a perpetual ordinance, to be made regularly to the Lord. Thus they shall prepare the lamb, the grain offering, and the oil, as a regular burnt offering every morning.”
Ezekiel 46:12-15

1. Two voluntary offerings were mentioned.

a) The burnt offering:

i) This was a thanksgiving offering.

ii) It comes from the heart to express gratitude and love for God.

iii) It is given voluntarily.

b) The peace offering:

i) The focus here is one of fellowship.

ii) It is given in thanksgiving for the peace that God has given.

iii) It is also given voluntarily.

c) These offerings were established in the days of Moses.
These are practised with deeper spiritual understanding and appreciation.

2. The gate that faces East.

a) This was closed because ancient Israel had used this gate to worship the Sun.

b) But because of the maturity and spirituality of the prince who offers true worship, the Eastern Gate would be open for him to use.

c) But after he has departed from the Temple, the Eastern Gate would be shut.

d) This was done to prevent possible returning to idolatrous ways by worshippers.

3. Offerings

a) Sabbath offerings were to be given.

b) Daily offerings would be given too.

c) These offerings were to be given in obedience to a “perpetual ordinance”.

d) Each day begins with the worship of the Lord in the morning.

e) Worship is not confined to the Sabbath!
