"Those who go down to the Pit"

Text: Ezekiel 32:18

THE PIT OF DEATH

The word of the Lord came to Ezekiel again and again. Ezekiel noted the time when God would reveal His prophetic word to him.

“It came to pass also in the twelfth year, on the fifteenth day of the month, that the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
‘Son of man, wail over the multitude of Egypt,
And cast them down to the depths of the earth,
Her and the daughters of the famous nations,
With those who go down to the Pit:
‘Whom do you surpass in beauty?
Go down, be placed with the uncircumcised.””
Ezekiel 32:17-19

a) They will be brought down to the depths of the earth.

b) This is a reference to death.

4. Many famous nations.

a) They too have perished.

i) The mighty Assyrians had been brought down.

ii) The Egyptians would also be brought into the pit of death.

b) Egypt cannot escape the judgment of God.

i) Egypt’s beauty is nothing compared to mightier nations.

ii) It would be brought down to the pit as one that is unclean (“uncircumcised”).
