"They also went down to hell with it"

Text: Ezekiel 31:17

THE ALLIES OF ASSYRIA

The Asyrian empire was made up of many allied states. They became as vindictive and wicked as the Assyrian kings. They were boastful, proud and arrogant in their behaviour and outlook. The Lord had to deal sternly and firmly with them too.

“They also went down to hell with it,
with those slain by the sword;
and those who were its strong arm
dwelt in its shadows among the nations.
‘To which of the trees in Eden
will you then be likened in glory and greatness?
Yet you shall be brought down
with the trees of Eden to the depths of the earth;
you shall lie in the midst of the uncircumcised,
with those slain by the sword.
This is Pharaoh and all his multitude,’
says the Lord God.”
Ezekiel 31:17-18

e) It too would suffer defeat and demise.

f) God could cause Egypt to be destroyed as a nation if it persisted in its wicked ways.

g) The words of warning were very clear and stark.

h) Egypt can fall like the trees of Eden that were laid low by the Lord.
